Downton Abbey: A Love Story Within The Walls: Part 4

The chauffer drives Jimmy, George, and I into town. He drops George off first at a tall building. I couldn't make out what the building said, so I just shook it off and let George out.

"Goodbye, George. Have a fun time," I told my cousin.

He nods, a small smile creeping over his lips, "You too, Sybbie," I smile. I kind of liked it when George called me that instead of everyone else. I don't really know the reason why.

He walks off. Before I get back in, I see Jimmy still sitting up front with the chauffer.

"You can sit back here, Jimmy, if you'd like," I tell him smiling.

"Oh, I don't think her ladyship would like that," he replies staying put.

"Don't be silly, she won't even know, besides I'd like for you to sit back here with me,"

He looks at me funny, but gets out and says, "After you, my lady," I gladly slide in the seat while Jimmy sits next to me.

He seems rather uncomfortable.

"Um, Jimmy, what would you like to do today?" I ask him politely.

He looks at me and then looks at the ground, "My lady, it is not up to me,"

"Alright, first of all, you don't have to keep calling me, my lady, and second of all, since you've never been to London, you get to decide," I say matter of factly.

He pauses to think about it, "Alright, can we go see.. um.... maybe... the Queen?"

I laugh at that comment and then stop rather abruptly because he's looking at me seriously.

"Oh, um... we aren't aloud to see the Queen without an 'appointment' if that's what you'd like to call it, but we might be able to see Buckingham Palace," I tell him.

He nods, "Oh, that would be fine, my- I.. mean..."

"Sybil. You may call me Sybil," I say smiling.

He returns the favor, "Sybil,"

The chauffer drops us off at Buckingham Palace.

"Thank you," I tell the driver. He wasn't really our chauffer. He's just a taxi driver.

We walk up to a lady at a desk, "Hello, we are here to see a tour of Buckingham Palace,"

She gives us a sly smile, "I'm sorry, but tours are Monday through Thursday,"

Oh, man. It was only Saturday. I look at Jimmy. I feel bad for him.

"Alright, thank you ma'am," I tell her and we walk off.

"I'm terribly sorry, Jimmy," I say as we sit down on a bench.

"Oh, it's fine," he says.

I try to think of something else we could do. Tower of London? Maybe... that takes hours though. Perhaps, I could show him some shops? Eh, men aren't into shopping. I suddenly run out of ideas.

"I'm sorry, Jimmy, but.. I've suddenly run out of ideas of where to go..." I say looking down.

"It's perfectly alright. Would you like to take a stroll down the street?" he asks stretching out his hand toward me.

I take it and say, "I believe that would do me good, thank you,"

We start walking and we talk about our lives. The good and the bad. He tells me about how he first became a footman at Downton Abbey. At first he didn't like it, but he got used to it.

"You were there when my mother died?" I asked him. We suddenly got onto the subject of my mother who died giving birth to me. I wish I could remember her, but I was just a newborn baby when she died.

"Yes.. it was a tragic time for all of us," he says looking down.

"I wish she didn't have to die," I walk slower that before.

"We all wish she didn't. You look so much like her, Sybil,"

"I'm glad my father gave me my mother's name. It makes me proud of who I am," I look at Jimmy who's looking at me.

He smiles a bit," Yes, I'm sure it does,"

We walk around a little bit more when we see George across the street from us.

"Look, there's George!" I say waving at him.

He looks our way and waves back, "Let's go!" I say and we walk across the street trying to avoid the cars.

"Hello, George!" I say excited to see my cousin.

"Hello, Sybil," he surprisingly gives me a big hug.

"Jimmy and I were just going back to Aunt Rosamond's. Are you ready to go back?" I ask him.

"Yes, I think so," he nods. I notice he has a small paper in his hands. He quickly puts it in his pocket and we walk back to the house.

Downton Abbey: A Love Story Within The Walls: Part 3

(back to Sybil's point of view)

It is the next day and Grandmamma is taking George and I to London. I can't wait so I wake up extra early and get dressed and head downstairs to find Jimmy standing by a door.

"Why, Jimmy, what on earth are you doing?" I ask surprised to see him.

"Mr. Carson told me to wait here until he comes back with Lady Grantham's luggage for today's trip to London, my lady," he tells me in his thick British accent.

"Oh, very well," I smile and stand there trying to find something to talk about when Mr. Carson comes with Grandmamma's things.

"Oh good morning, my lady. Lady Grantham will be down in just a moment," Mr. Carson assures me and hands Jimmy the big bag he's holding, "James, put this on the back of the car please,"

Jimmy nods and walks to the car.

"Um, Mr. Carson, why is Jimmy coming with us to London?" I ask him before he leaves.

"Oh, I'm not sure my lady, Lord Grantham just told me to tell him that, you might want to ask Lady Grantham," he smiles. I love Mr. Carson so much. He's like a second father to me.

"Yes, thank you," I smile in return and Jimmy comes back leaving us alone yet again.

"Is there anything you want to take to the car, Lady Sybil?" Jimmy asks politely.

"Um, no I'm fine thank you, Jimmy," I reply and clutch the little pocket purse I have in my hands.

Just then George comes down the stairs.

"Oh, hello George," I say trying to be in a cheery mood today.

"Hello, Sybil, Jimmy," he says walking towards us.

"Master George," Jimmy says in return.

"So, are you both excited for London?" I ask the boys... well, should I say men.

"Yes, I suppose," George replies fixing his collar.

"What about you, Jimmy?" I turn to him who is standing up straight.

"I can hardly wait, my lady," he says grinning. Oh, how I love to see Jimmy smile.

"Everyone ready?" Grandmamma asks walking down the stairs with Aunt Mary.

"Yes, grandmamma," George and I say at the same time.

"Now, be good, both of you and stay out of trouble, especially you George," Aunt Mary tells us as we walk outside.

"Yes, mama,"

"Yes, Aunt Mary,"

"Alright, have fun," she says.

Jimmy opens the door to the car for all three of us and we get in. He closes it gently and gets in the front.

"Goodbye!" we all say to Aunt Mary and all of the servants outside.

"Have a safe trip!" she says in return as we drive off.

IN LONDON

I keep an eye on Jimmy in the front seat who's looking out at all the sights of London.

"Is this you're first time in London, Jimmy?" Grandmamma asks him.

"Yes, your ladyship, it is," Jimmy replies looking out the window once more.

"Well, I hope you enjoy it," she says as we pull up to Aunt Rosamond's house.

To tell you the truth, I've never known how we are related to her. My guess, it's a family secret.

"My darlings! How are you?!" Aunt Rosamond comes out and greets us with hugs and kisses.

"Very well, how are you?" Grandmamma says stepping out of the car.

Jimmy gets everyone's bags, they look heavy, so I say, "Let me help you,"

He resists, "No, my lady, its alright,"

"It's okay, I can handle a bag," I chuckle and he gives me one.

"Thank you, my lady," he says gratefully.

"Don't mention it," I smile and we walk inside.

"Alright, I'm going to relax a little, what will you two be doing?" Grandmamma asks sitting down.

I set the bag next to a table and Jimmy does the same.

"I was thinking of going shopping or something in town," I reply.

"Alright, what about you, George?"

"I might look for something to do in town also," he tells Grandmamma.

"Okay, Jimmy, you may go with Lady Sybil and keep an eye on her, alright?"

"Grandmamma, I don't need a chaperone!" I tell her.

"Your father told me to keep an eye on you, so I brought along Jimmy," she explains.

I groan, "Fine," I mumble.

"Yes, my lady," Jimmy tells Grandmamma and we both leave the house to explore London.

Downton Abbey: A Love Story Within The Walls: Part 2

~Before we begin the second part of the book, here is the music of Downton Abbey. I love to listen to it because it opens my imagination and makes me write even better... and it's so catchy. ;)

The day goes on like any other. It is finally time for supper.

I change into a long navy evening dress. I put on a pearl necklace and slip on a pair of long white gloves.

I walk out of my room and see Anna coming out of Aunt Mary's room.

"Hello, Anna," I greet her. She looks my way and smiles, "Good evening, Lady Sybil, how are you?"

I love Anna so much. She is like a mother to me. Speaking of which, she is going to be a mother soon. She and Mr. Bates are so happy and excited. I wish them the best.

"I'm fine, thank you. How are you and the baby doing?" I ask her straightening my gloves on my hands.

"Oh, we're good and healthy I suppose," she chuckles as we walk downstairs together.

"I wonder if its a girl!" I say giddy.

"Well, I want it to be a girl. Mr. Bates doesn't quite agree with that," she smiles.

I grin, "Well, whatever it is, we're glad to have a baby in the house,"

"Thank you, my lady," she walks off downstairs.

I reach the room in which everyone was seated talking and waiting for supper to be served.

"Oh, Sybil, do you know if George is coming down? I haven't seen him since breakfast," Aunt Mary asks as I enter the room.

"I have no idea, I haven't seen him either," I reply taking a seat next to Grandmamma.

"I'll go up and see what he's doing," Grandpapa says striding off upstairs.

"Where's Edith these days, mama?" Aunt Mary asks sipping some wine.

"I'm not sure, Mary. We haven't had a letter from her in days," Grandmamma explains.

A few minutes later George and Grandpapa enter the room all dressed in their best tuxedos.

"He was just a little late getting ready," Grandpapa says when Mr. Carson walks in the room, "Dinner is served,"

Everyone gets up and heads to the dining room.

I sit down next to George awkwardly because he never looks at me. I wish he would just say something!

Everyone is chatting about random things when James, the footman, I like to call him Jimmy because I think that's what he would prefer, leans down to me and hands me a big platter full of vegetables for me to serve myself.

I glance at him for a second and smile and take the spoon and fork and fish for some cold carrots and green beans.

I put the silverware back on the platter and look back at him one more time and see him smiling.

Okay, I have to admit. I have liked Jimmy ever since I was ten. He was so loyal and well, handsome. I wish I had a chance to speak with him. Maybe I can after everyone goes to bed.

"Sybil, dear, would you and George like to travel to London for the day tomorrow? Just for a change of scenery maybe?" Grandmamma asks us.

We stop eating for a moment. I look up at her and say, "Of course! I'd love to go to London,"

George looks at his plate, "George? What about you sweetheart?" Aunt Mary says looking at him.

"Alright," he finally says.

What is with him?! Ugh, I can hardly stand George anymore.

"Well, then its settled. We' will go tomorrow at 8:00 in the morning, just before daybreak," Grandmamma explains eating her roast beef.

I spare a glance at Jimmy again who's standing by the door watching us eat. He's standing so tall and firm. He doesn't look my way. I keep staring at him when I hear papa's voice, "Sybil? Sybil, are you alright, darling?"

"What? Oh... I'm so sorry, I must of been in a daze," I tell him and continue to eat.

-JIMMY'S POINT OF VIEW

After the family's supper, Mr. Carson and I take the food down to the kitchen for Mrs. Patmore and Daisy to put away.

"How was Lady Sybil?" Daisy asks me putting away some food.

"What? She... was... fine, I suppose, why do you ask?" I say unaware of what she was getting at.

She doesn't say anything, just smiles so I walk away.

"James, are you alright?" Mr. Carson asks me as I'm standing in the doorway.

"What? I'm fine... gosh, why is everyone making a fuss over me tonight?" I ask him quite annoyed.

"I'm sorry, Lord Grantham wants you to go with Lady Grantham, Lady Sybil, and Master George to London tomorrow, I'm afraid I don't know the reason why, but you will do what his lordship asks at once," he says matter of factly.

I hesitate. Why on earth would they want me to go with them to London?

"Um, okay," I reply and walk off.

London. I sigh. This will be my first trip to London.

Downton Abbey: A Love Story Within The Walls: Part 1

I wake up to the sound of the birds singing in the sweet summer morning. What a lovely day to do.. nothing.
Everyday I do the same thing. Wake up, eat breakfast the servants put on the table, wander around the big empty house looking for something to do, randomly talk to some of the household maids along the way, eat dinner, repeat, and if I'm lucky, travel to London for the day, and then eat supper, and finally off to bed. The next day, repeat.

My whole life growing up at Downton Abbey was full of boredom and interest at the same time. I would wander downstairs to the servants hall and talk to some of them just for the fun of it.

Oh, and then there's my cousin, George. He lives at Downton also, we played together when we were children, but now that we've grown up we've sort of drifted apart and hardly talk to each other. Papa and Aunt Mary think that we should spend more time together since we are practically the only 'children' as they call it in the house. I said I would think about it.

Well, time to start the day.

I get out of bed and change myself into black tights with high heels, a below the knee length purple skirt, and finally a nice elegant looking white top. I decided I wouldn't need a ladies maid to help me get dressed and undressed, that's just a waste of time. I finally fixed my hair into a braid and twisted up on top of my head and put a white clip in it. I was ready for breakfast.

I walked down the long spiral staircase and entered the dining room in which Papa, Grandpapa, and George sat eating.

Ugh, I have to socialize with men.

"Ah, good morning Sibbie," Papa says taking a drink of his tea.

"Papa, its Sybil," I state sitting down next to George who just keeps his eyes fixed on his plate.

He just continues to eat his food when Mr. Carson walks over to me and hands me a plate of food, "Here you are my lady,"

"Thank you, Mr. Carson," I tell him and start to eat.

"So, what are your plans for the day, Sybil?" Grandpapa asks me.

I swallow some sausage and reply, "Oh, nothing as usual," George looks at me for a moment and then continues to eat.

"What were you staring at?" I ask him like he committed a crime.

He stutters, "Oh, uh, nothing, nothing at all," I give him a weird look.

George can be very odd sometimes.

After breakfast I wander around the house like usual when Aunt Mary stops me and says, "Sybil, do you know where George is? I've been looking for him forever,"

"I have no idea, we just finished breakfast though," I tell my aunt. She thanks me and leaves the room.

I swing my arms up and down dying of boredom when Grandmamma walks into the library room.

"Oh, hello Sybil, what's the matter?" she asks in her always friendly American accent which I long to have.

"I'm so bored and there's nothing to do around here," I flop down on a red chair.

"Well, where's George? Maybe you two can find some-" I cut her off, "No, we... we never have anything to do or talk about.... we've run out of interests,"

She looks at me with sympathy, "Oh, Sybil, someday you'll be very glad you have George as a cousin and maybe you can find something to talk about with each other, I know this age is rough, but just give it some time," she smiles softly.

I manage to make a small smile when papa walks in the room.

"Sybil, sit up straight. I don't want you stretched out on the chair like that, its not ladylike and you know it," he demands.

I just roll my eyes and sit up.

"Oh give her some space, Tom, she's growing up," I hear grandmamma whisper to him. Thank you! Saved by Grandma!

He just shakes it off and sits down.

I walk out of the room not wanting to be judged anymore and accidently run into George knocking him to the ground.

"Oh my goodness, I'm sorry," I say trying to help him and myself up.

"Its, its alright," he says trying to stand up.

"Well, what's this?" Aunt Mary sees us trying to stand up.

"Mama, I...she..." George tries to explain.

"It was my fault, I accidently bumped into him and pushed him to the ground," I tell Aunt Mary who is apparently laughing at us.

"Oh, I see, just... be careful next time," she walks off into the library.

I fix my shirt and tuck it back in, George does the same with his and fixes his slicked hair to the side.

"Sorry again," I say.

He just chuckles, "Its alright,"

Then there's silence for a bit until he says, "Well, I have some.. stuff to do. I'll see you at dinner,"

"Oh, alright. Bye, George," I wave at him as he's walking upstairs.

Alright... what to do now.. I strut off down the hall.
