Downton Abbey: A Love Story Within The Walls: Part 5

A dress Sybil would wear. Remember it is now 1936, so the styles are changing. :)

Once Jimmy, George, and I return back to Aunt Rosamond's it is time for supper.

"Wash up good! And we're having pumpkin pie for dessert!" Aunt Rosamond tells us as we go upstairs to change into some suitable evening clothes.

I see Jimmy about to go to the servants quarters downstairs. I rush to him before he leaves.

"Jimmy! Wait!" I say to him. He looks my way a little startled and walks to me saying, "What is it, my la-.. um, Sybil?"

I catch up to him and say, "You don't have to go down there with them if you don't want to, you could stay up here with us," I'm crossing my fingers in hope he'll say he's staying up here.

"Oh, I don't think I can do that. I am a servant," Jimmy says looking into my eyes.

"I know, I just want you to stay up here. Please? At least just for supper," Good gosh, I sound desperate.

He ponders it a moment, "Well, if its alright with Lady Grantham, I'll do as you wish,"

The biggest smile spreads across my face when he says that. I probably look like an idiotic clown, but I don't care. Jimmy is staying with us for supper.

After I get ready for supper, I walk downstairs in my long light pink dress and see the man of my dreams standing in the hallway looking in the mirror fixing his blonde hair.

He doesn't know I'm right behind him because I'm so short I'm not in his view in the mirror.

He's still fixing his hair. He's slicking it to the side to make it look just right. I finally go, "Ahem,"

He jumps around with a frightened look spread across his face.

I chuckle, "I'm sorry, you just kept fixing and re-fixing you're hair for five minutes," I smile.

He clears his throat, "I'm terribly sorry, I didn't know you were behind me," he touches his hair again which in my opinion looked maybe a little overly fixed.

"Yes, well, it's time for supper," I tell him looking into the dining room to see everyone seated already.

"May I escort you, madam?" he asks stretching his arm out for me to take it.

"You very well may, mister," I say putting my arm in his and we walk to the dining room to see a very shocked looking group.

"Sybil, what on earth is Jimmy doing upstairs?" Aunt Rosamond asks me standing up.

"Aunt Rosamond, Jimmy is here to have dinner with us, if that's alright," I say standing up straight.

She looks kind of angry, but Grandmamma just sort of smiles a bit and says, "Oh I think it's alright just for tonight, Rosamond," She looks at Grandmamma and gives in.

"Well, alright, come in and join us," we walk over to two seats beside George. He's been too quiet. I wonder what's going on in that little boy mind of his.

Supper goes on and finally ends by everyone standing up and walking to the sitting room. Jimmy has to go back downstairs, so I walk over with him before he goes back down and turn to him who looks like he has a smile on his face.

"What?" I ask him.

"It's just, tonight was wonderful, Sybil. Thank you," a small smile forms in the corner of his lips.

"Oh, anytime, Jimmy. It was absolutely a wonderful day with you," we stand there for a moment not knowing what to say to each other.

"You know, Sybil, you're not like those other girls. You're kind and not afraid of being who you are. That's what I love about you," he says shyly.

I stand there in shocked amazement. He. Jimmy. Just said what I think he said. Oh, Jimmy I love you! Please don't ever leave me! Am I thinking too loudly? What am I supposed to say to that? Um...

"Um... oh... thank you, Jimmy. I feel the same way about you, I.. should um... I have to go to sleep now, goodnight!" I start walking away.

What? That was it?! Sybil, you idiot! You don't end it like that! Go back to him. Now.. oh maybe tomorr- "Sybil, wait!" I hear Jimmy's voice behind me.

I turn around to see him walking towards me. What does he want? Does he love me? What is he going to say? See you tomorrow?

"What is it?" I ask him.

He comes up to me looking nervous. We are just inches apart.

"Goodnight," he gently kisses my cheek.

Did he just do that? Yes... he did. Jimmy Kent kissed my cheek. Keep it together Sybil.

"Goodnight, Jimmy," I manage to say and we part slowly stealing glances at one another.

I go to sleep thinking about what tomorrow will bring.
