Downton Abbey: A Love Story Within The Walls: Part 3

(back to Sybil's point of view)

It is the next day and Grandmamma is taking George and I to London. I can't wait so I wake up extra early and get dressed and head downstairs to find Jimmy standing by a door.

"Why, Jimmy, what on earth are you doing?" I ask surprised to see him.

"Mr. Carson told me to wait here until he comes back with Lady Grantham's luggage for today's trip to London, my lady," he tells me in his thick British accent.

"Oh, very well," I smile and stand there trying to find something to talk about when Mr. Carson comes with Grandmamma's things.

"Oh good morning, my lady. Lady Grantham will be down in just a moment," Mr. Carson assures me and hands Jimmy the big bag he's holding, "James, put this on the back of the car please,"

Jimmy nods and walks to the car.

"Um, Mr. Carson, why is Jimmy coming with us to London?" I ask him before he leaves.

"Oh, I'm not sure my lady, Lord Grantham just told me to tell him that, you might want to ask Lady Grantham," he smiles. I love Mr. Carson so much. He's like a second father to me.

"Yes, thank you," I smile in return and Jimmy comes back leaving us alone yet again.

"Is there anything you want to take to the car, Lady Sybil?" Jimmy asks politely.

"Um, no I'm fine thank you, Jimmy," I reply and clutch the little pocket purse I have in my hands.

Just then George comes down the stairs.

"Oh, hello George," I say trying to be in a cheery mood today.

"Hello, Sybil, Jimmy," he says walking towards us.

"Master George," Jimmy says in return.

"So, are you both excited for London?" I ask the boys... well, should I say men.

"Yes, I suppose," George replies fixing his collar.

"What about you, Jimmy?" I turn to him who is standing up straight.

"I can hardly wait, my lady," he says grinning. Oh, how I love to see Jimmy smile.

"Everyone ready?" Grandmamma asks walking down the stairs with Aunt Mary.

"Yes, grandmamma," George and I say at the same time.

"Now, be good, both of you and stay out of trouble, especially you George," Aunt Mary tells us as we walk outside.

"Yes, mama,"

"Yes, Aunt Mary,"

"Alright, have fun," she says.

Jimmy opens the door to the car for all three of us and we get in. He closes it gently and gets in the front.

"Goodbye!" we all say to Aunt Mary and all of the servants outside.

"Have a safe trip!" she says in return as we drive off.

IN LONDON

I keep an eye on Jimmy in the front seat who's looking out at all the sights of London.

"Is this you're first time in London, Jimmy?" Grandmamma asks him.

"Yes, your ladyship, it is," Jimmy replies looking out the window once more.

"Well, I hope you enjoy it," she says as we pull up to Aunt Rosamond's house.

To tell you the truth, I've never known how we are related to her. My guess, it's a family secret.

"My darlings! How are you?!" Aunt Rosamond comes out and greets us with hugs and kisses.

"Very well, how are you?" Grandmamma says stepping out of the car.

Jimmy gets everyone's bags, they look heavy, so I say, "Let me help you,"

He resists, "No, my lady, its alright,"

"It's okay, I can handle a bag," I chuckle and he gives me one.

"Thank you, my lady," he says gratefully.

"Don't mention it," I smile and we walk inside.

"Alright, I'm going to relax a little, what will you two be doing?" Grandmamma asks sitting down.

I set the bag next to a table and Jimmy does the same.

"I was thinking of going shopping or something in town," I reply.

"Alright, what about you, George?"

"I might look for something to do in town also," he tells Grandmamma.

"Okay, Jimmy, you may go with Lady Sybil and keep an eye on her, alright?"

"Grandmamma, I don't need a chaperone!" I tell her.

"Your father told me to keep an eye on you, so I brought along Jimmy," she explains.

I groan, "Fine," I mumble.

"Yes, my lady," Jimmy tells Grandmamma and we both leave the house to explore London.
